CHRIS PACIONE
How can we weave computation seamlessly into daily life? How can we use technology to enable new and useful experiences for people? And how can the stress and lifestyle causes of many major illnesses be tackled by computers? Chris Pacione's answer to these three, very different questions was to co-found BodyMedia Inc, the "healthy lifestyle" company. It provides wearable health monitors and interactive services via the web which allow people to monitor and measure their degree of wellness whether the user's aim is to lose weight, reduce blood pressure or minimise stress. "Experience design is a way of thinking through problems, not a new practise," Pacione argues. "It's the mental thread that connects the way each discipline inside an organisation conducts work, solves problems, collaborates, and truly understands." He has over ten years experience in developing interactive solutions for various web-based, e-commerce and mobile computing companies. Before founding BodyMedia, he was co-founder and Chief Design Officer of Sandbox Advanced Development and a McCandless Chair Professor at Carnegie Mellon University's school of design, where he taught courses in human-computer interaction and information design.
